Get Intimate with the Queen City Of the South

Alegria: Beauty and Heritage

During our very long round-south trip last week, we dropped by the quiet town of Alegria to grab something to eat.  It was already two pm, way past lunchtime, and we were starving. Plus, it didn’t help that all the people from Barili to Badian were apparently taking their siesta. And I must admit, although the sights were awesome, the road was too quiet and the risk of getting the ‘sleepy drive’ syndrome was huge. So, a nice little stop to fill all that’s empty was in order.

Alegria’s town church and plaza – a combination of heritage, beauty, and awesomeness.

After a long drive from Barili, we finally reached the town of Alegria at around two in the afternoon.

Gorgeous sea-side town.

Peace and quiet. I love Alegria!

And I must say Alegria has very nice houses.

After a relaxing stop and lunch at Cosina Organica, we went straight to the town church and plaza.

The town plaza is really well-maintained. Good job, Alegria!

The plaza was built around a heritage structure – a Baluarte.

The baluarte – seen in many coastal towns in Cebu – were used to warn locals of  pirate and Moro attacks in the past.

Alegria’s Baluarte.

The lovely lampposts are a great addition to the heritage park.

View of the town church from the plaza. Now imagine leaving the church after an early morning mass and seeing the wonderful view. Wow!

Plenty of benches for those late-night chats and gossips.

The plaza also offers a great view of the coast of Alegria.

View of the ocean from the park.

And just a few meters from the park is this small restaurant on stills. Very lovely!

Check out Alegria today!
