Get Intimate with the Queen City Of the South

The New Cebu South Bus Terminal

I returned to Hidden Paradise Mountain Resort in San Fernando last Sunday together with the members of SSC-Cebu* for an important activity (secret usa. LOL). We met at 9 am and at ten, we went to the South Bus Terminal to catch our ride. We knew that the terminal was undergoing some renovation but we didn’t expect that it would look awesome. Although there are still a lot of things to be improved, I must say that the new Cebu South Bus Terminal is like no other. In fact, our initial reaction was – ‘Terminal ni or airport?’ Hehehe.

Ladies and gentlemen, the new Cebu South Bus Terminal!

Entrance of the new Cebu South Bus Terminal. Be ready with your 5 pesos. Hehehe.

So, what are the major changes? Let’s list them down:

  • Terminal fee upon entry (Php5.00)
  • Free entrance for minors and senior citizens
  • One ticketing counter for all destinations
  • Flat screen TVs in waiting areas
  • Air-conditioned waiting lounge
  • Clean restrooms
  • Food outlets and snack bars
  • Souvenir shops
  • Announcement of arrival and departure through paging system
  • Dedicated boarding ‘gates’ for different routes/destinations

Terminal pa ni or airport na? Hehehehe. By the way, the guys in the photos are SSC-Cebu forumers. :)

Finally, a more relaxed and more organized system of boarding the bus. Now, you don’t need to worry about getting hit in the shin. Hehehe.

Watch a video of the new CSBT. You’ll love it!

Big big thanks to Romanslerz for the photos and the video.

When I was there last June, under renovation pa to but even then I already commented that it looks like this is going to be an awesome place,,,, and indeed it is,, Oh how I love Cebu…world class, hope the roads (there are still a few stretches that needs upgrading)and other related infrastructures follow suit….

Hala kanindot gud! Looks like an airport, wow amazing! Ikapanghambog jud.
My beloved Cebu has really improved…thumbs up!

  3. ako September 22, 2009 at 12:43 am

Just finished watching the video, english speaking lage ang mo announce, unta Cebuano dialect pod aside from English kay mao baya atong naandan unya naa pa baya sad maglisod ug kasabot sa iningles.
    Just my 2 centavos!

    • leylander September 22, 2009 at 1:06 am

Hehehe. I agree.

  4. ako September 22, 2009 at 1:17 am

Ah ok Ley, both languages jud unta in my opinion, parehas ba sa mga international airline companies nga naay language sa lugar nga tugpahan, naay pakapin tagalog basta sa pinas na tugpa. I would appreciate if both english and cebuano languages will be used.

  5. LoCal September 22, 2009 at 2:03 am

    SAkto gyud,
In as much as there are foreigners, mas daghan man pod siguro ang mga Bisdak at any given time of the day, makatabang ang Bisaya,,, It would also emphasize our pride as Bisayans.

  6. ofw_cebu September 22, 2009 at 4:46 am

I hope ma maintain ni nila and ma improve pa dyud…..sa ilang kita daily with the 5 peso per person, dako kaayo na matabang para pag improve sa facility…..

  7. mardie c",) September 22, 2009 at 5:07 am

  8. noli September 22, 2009 at 7:05 am

really cool and amazing..the last time i was at the south bus terminal was last jan ’09 but did’nt notice of such ongoing reno-maybe i was not minding nor did my brothers bother telling me. i noticed only that there was huge improvement compared in late 70’s, the last time i traveled down south-yak…. antigo na dyud. this is awesome. . regular upkeep is really required to preserve the beauty. vandals, pick pockets and hawkers must keep off from inside and out of the building and in the terminal yard.

  9. ianne September 22, 2009 at 7:19 am

It’s more like it, an air conditioned waiting area & bus ride in comfort. In the olden days, we sweat as if we’re in hell! lol. Well done, Cebu!

  10. inday myrna September 22, 2009 at 11:48 am

Hala kanindot ba sa SBT. Murag safe ta ani sa mangu-nguot ah. Unta not allowed na ang mga garod nga bus mobyahe, as I still see it when i was there.

  11. ismat September 22, 2009 at 9:55 pm

wow nice na kaayo siya ley doh.. as in mura sad og diri sa uk ang entrance sa terminal… igon ana sad style if mosulod ka sa train station…
din the waiting area too…. look semilar sad diri…. its nice…

  12. George September 22, 2009 at 10:01 pm

Asa man dapita ang vendor sa tuba? The PA heard in the video did not include announcements in Cebuano. That’s a shame. Way class diay ning Cebuano nga language kay di na man pwede sa upscale nga environment. What happened to Cebuano pride?

    • angelo September 24, 2009 at 9:07 am

Ang tuba ibutang og dispenser ug isilbe in paper or plastic cups with napkin. He, he, he. That is to glorify and promote our Cebuano culture.

    • angelo September 24, 2009 at 2:00 pm

  13. joel September 22, 2009 at 11:46 pm

wow pag uli nako last december wa pa to mahuman kanindot na jud… hapsay na jud diay ang ato bus terminal …..so Ley wala nay mga dispatcher diha nga alsahon ato mga butang bisan gaan ra kaayo unya mangayo dayon ug sinsilyo… wa nay mamaligyaay diha ug itlog orange mineral…

  14. Takdol September 23, 2009 at 7:54 am

    Wow. Asenso na gyud!

  15. Asian dating September 23, 2009 at 9:37 am

Hala! Kanindot na gud intawn sa CSBT. I did not expect na it will turn out this good kay last time ko naka adto ug south bus terminal kay on construction paman to tapos ineg labay2 nako padung sa cebu city ay ang gawas ra ang akong nakit-an na naay changes.

Hope ma maintain nila nag kanindot ug i enhanced pa gyud!

  16. batang buotan September 23, 2009 at 11:39 am

I’m sure Cebu can transform Carbon market more than what Ozamiz did.

  17. luisa USA September 24, 2009 at 1:09 am

  18. angelo September 24, 2009 at 8:54 am

Pag-adto nako sa Simala last June, nagsuong suong mi adtong agianan nga kamolo pagpanday. Nindota gyud sa terminal. World class. Kinsa man nang nagblack and blue sa first picture? Gibati gyod niya ang kanindot sa CSBT. He, he, he.

  19. cielo September 25, 2009 at 3:32 am

wow! cebu has come a long way!! i can still remember myself fighting/climbing my way into the bus through the window! way to go cebu!!

  20. Roland T. Abha Saudi Arabia September 25, 2009 at 2:09 pm

  21. Robert September 25, 2009 at 5:00 pm

    Bay,

nindota na gud sa Cebu South Bus terminal, pareha na man sa terminal sa Mactan Cebu International airport with matching Cable TV pa.

  22. voice4u September 25, 2009 at 9:43 pm

  24. jessica September 27, 2009 at 8:08 am

amazing! wow. dugay nako wala ka byahe.

  25. allyza October 3, 2009 at 11:00 pm

nindot jud ang terminal pero maldito lang kaau ang nagdala… walay batasan… naay tindera sa ngohiong express gilabay nya sa kwarta, nasuko man cya nganong gipaninglan cya. naningil jud ang tindera kay mo-out naman cya unya day off pa jud daw nya ugma. wa ju’y batasan daghan pa jud taw nga nangaon sa paglabay nya sa kwarta

    • Doms October 3, 2009 at 11:47 pm

      hala kinsa diay nah?

      • allyza October 7, 2009 at 6:05 am

i-search kun kinsa ang ngdala sa south bus… then you’ll know who he is…. he’s very rude n arrogant…. not good to see esp nga cya ang naa sa position. dili jud unta mag ingon ana…. i thought he was somebody rich but it turned out he was more than rich but he is also powerful n very influential. i just recently knew it.

  26. Doms October 3, 2009 at 11:46 pm

when my bestfriend told me about the complete overhaul of the South Bus Terminal i had known all my life, i couldnt believe it…amazing! i think it is really clear that it’s Gov. Gwen’s advocacy to promote tourism and a step towards this is making the South bus Terminal more tourist-friendly, si ayaw namo kahibulong anang mag-iningles kay para ra gihapon nas atung probinsya! mas nindut sad baya kay aron maningkamot sad ni atung mga igsuon bah nga makat-on ug ininglis aron dili mahasi ug makig-estorya sa mga langyaw, di ba??? one way man sad na nga mulambo kita personally and as a nation…

    • N Cabilan October 5, 2009 at 3:06 am

So my suggestion is binisaya jud ang dapat gamiton pero dunay translation in english, being an international language.

      • N Cabilan October 5, 2009 at 3:10 am

Ug kugihan pa gyod, puede pod additional translation in tagalog… aron morag respeto sa mga taga luzon not that they don’t understand english but to show to the english speaking world na duna sa ‘tay love sa atong sinultian.

      • N Cabilan October 5, 2009 at 3:30 am

    • ako October 5, 2009 at 3:34 pm

Molambo ta kay mag iningles? Come on, hatagan nato ug pride ang atong lugar, mas ipalabi nato ang atong dialect kay mas daghan ang bisaya! Then sa mga non visayan speakers, ato sila hatagan ug posibilidad makasabot, mao hatagan natog iningles!

  30. cebu image October 12, 2009 at 8:51 am

    unsay news sa meeting

  31. Ronald Smith October 12, 2009 at 11:55 am

Much better then when I left in the end of August 2009 You just load and sweat in the bus as you waited for the bus driver to get aboard to get the bus running to take the wheel THat the way Cebu about time you finished the construction there and have a real updated Bus Terminal but I have been in the US where we have all these modern Terminals from airport to train Rail or to BUS or taxi gateways. thats the wat Cebu I love to visit there its a most beauiful in the world to see

  32. Roxanne October 12, 2009 at 8:31 pm

maayo man tong AIRPORT kay ang usa ka tawo dili man TAGA-ADLAW TIGSAKAYAN OG AIRPLANE. og intawn kaning TERMINAL, taga-adlaw mi mag ULI-AN. dako kaayo silag makwarta.

ready my blog about THE CONTROVERSIAL CEBU SOUTH BUS TERMINAL

by the way, exchange links ta, ur blog is already on my list. thanks. ^_^

  33. teresa alberca October 13, 2009 at 2:46 pm

roxanne dear…tama ka mo sympatia sad ko anang imong commento …though im not a commuter coz we are here at davao del sur but my hubby is from ARGAO so were even a bakasyonista too…medyo bigat nga sa bulsa yong 5pesos lalo na kung magpamilya diba…. sana mabigyan pansin yan… hope is trial and error lng nila yan …I’ll appreciate it the improvement …safety nga kaya yan …ndi ba makapasok ang mga pick pocketers, hawkers….etc… kasi known yan diyan dati eh… actually i’ve been there last October 9-12,2009…super duppperrrrrrr nga…look like an airport na..so ambianceeeeee anyway…..ang mga crew tawagin na lng natin na mga crews…ahhahahahha….How we wish na mapababaan nila ang tool fee diyan ..though we all know that the proceeds of that terminal fee is going to the maintenance but its seems that …they should considered the commuters everyday too…..sana mabasa nila ang mga hinanaing sa mga commuters…even the bakasyonista na hindi foreigners lalo na gipit sakto sakto lng ang money o budget sa fare diba??????hopeeeeee na ma resolve ito…GODBLESS evreyone.

  34. JOEL ALISER October 14, 2009 at 2:43 pm

ok najud kaau ang new south terminal……………humana jud!!!sakto rman pud na ang terminal fee nga tag 5 para mintainance……………….its nice to be back najud dha kay humana jud….

    • leylander October 14, 2009 at 3:21 pm

      my take:

i think they should start selling a frequency card similar to the one used sa LRT/MRT. they can like sell a 100-peso card for 90 pesos and make it useable for like 25 times.

it’d be more convenient. and the passengers get to save a little.

  35. ms.j. October 18, 2009 at 3:06 am

nice ang vision sa cebu ni Mayor Osmena, i hope dili namanaghan ug samot ang mga jeep, ang mga daan na kaayo, dili na tugtan ug larga. it’s better mag kalesa, bike, sa city living, instead mga jeep. just like sa NY, mga tour bus lang ang mag tuyok-tuyok sa city, ang public trasnpo kay train in subway.

the cleaner and organized ang Cebu, the more we can promote our city for tourist, and that means job.

  36. joegie October 24, 2009 at 9:16 pm

    wow wow wow wow!!!

What time mag.open ang Cebu South Bus Terminal…kay nagplano mi mangadtog Santander karung saturday…

    tanxxxx

  39. gwen_gi*tay May 17, 2010 at 3:56 pm

adtoa ninyo karon usab ang terminal and lets see if you will still praise it.
what i don’t understand is why are they still collecting 5 pesos when the terminal is backed to its old chaos. ang mga pobre nga taga south nga maoy nagbuhis para ma renovate nang terminal anha na lang mag-atang ug bus sa atbang kay dili kabayad sa singko.

what a stupid governor we have!

    • fritzy April 4, 2012 at 8:57 am

  40. rogue July 27, 2010 at 3:36 pm

nice….. a great improvement. hehehe.. nindot jud d i ni nga topic para sa research. great comments guys..
