Here are some wonderful aerials of Mactan Island emailed to me by the photographer Jong Dioticio.
The photographer allowed me to post these photos all for the love of Cebu. Since these are stock photos, I am asking all of you to Not Copy the photos. They are copyrighted materials. You may click on the photos, however, for a closer look. Thanks a lot!
Punta Engano. The island looks really small here. Hehe.
Mactan Island and mainland Cebu
The coast of Mactan. Visible is the Bigfoot compound in Baranggay Mactan.

nice aerial shots here!
i am hoping that cebu could have a modern airport soon similar to naia3’s or bangkok’s/kuala lumpur’s. the current mcia can be converted to domestic airport instead. that we will gain more tourists in time, cebu to be a world class destination. mactan island can still be urban planned if the government will pay attention to it.
colon can be like orchard or bukit bintang, if we all work one in hand, i am hoping that colon will be lively again, a shopping destination, friendly street that foreigners could enjoy (including cebuanos) of course. al fresco restaurants on the sidewalk (hope rama/osmena could do more on regulating street vending, what now after that asean summit?) if they could make an option for these vendors like a specific place: chinatown district, making an chinese arch. i think having an arch in ‘tabo sa banay’ towards at the back of gaisano metro colon, a closing the whole road stretch(which seems unused) from plazafair(???not sure of the establishment) to the front of la fortuna hotel.
i am still hoping the best of cebu. more hdb units for the poor to eradicate illegal settlers/squatters and ease/decongest cebu.
I wonder if Cebu City has a downtown revitalization plan. Regarding Colon and the the downtown area, I wish they would designate it as a Historic District (with an arch?). Maybe start with Colon first. In my dream, I envision Colon with landscaped sidewalks with period lamp posts, brick pavements, trees at certain intervals, unobstrusive garbage cans. If possible a landscaped center island with utilities hidden underground. I imagined it to have sidewalk cafes and restaurants, theaters, shops and museums.
Maybe they could start by enhancing the old buildings by painting them historically “appropriate colors”. Mandate building owners to maintain their buildings a certain appearance. Maybe a restriction on certain vehicles. The vendors would have a designated area and have like a “tabo day/night” event every week. Maybe stricter enforcement of littering laws would alleviate the garbage problem. A sign ordinance would also help. Do they have “street sweeper” trucks?
Also, near the Mactan memorial a replica or a donated Spanish galleon from Spain? Is that too much?!!!
calling out the mayors of mactan and lapu2x: pls prettify the whole mactan area as a permanent change, dili lang sa kung naay summit ang i-held sa cebu. plastik ra kaayo tang mga cebuano. kung magpanindot man gani mo, himua na nga habit. willing jud mi mutabang in any way we can.
hahays, kung dili lang mo mga kurakot ay…
i really do agree to both of you “k” and “tina” its funny coz’ when a high school friend of mine ms rosebud (who owns a huge house in pacific grand villa) came and visited cebu the same time i came to visit cebu last oct. talked about mactan beautification and how she planned on writing to the mayor about simple infrastructure and changes esp the growing traffic on the main highway………. i love mactan my roots are from sta rosa but i hate to drive there coz’ of the traffic and so much congestion…… coming from the US and driving in cebu or manila is brutal! my hubby told me if i can drive in both cities then i can drive anywhere in the world, LOL…. driving in states is sooooo much easier than driving in the phil. ……… anyway, mactan has alot of potential but sometimes i still cannot get used to it going to shanrilla the side streets are way too different once your inside the hotel’s vicinity its like stepping into a different world…… the extreme contrast between poverty and elegance……
ley, coming na and trip ni satchmo sa korea, pagka-busy gyud kaayo nako pagbalik sa states, i will send you photos…
cheers
sige mam luisa. thanks daan!
If you happen to go to other countries shall we say bisag diri na lang sa Malaysia pastilan dako gyud kaayo ug kalahi-an. But I have never lose hope on my beloved Cebu. Katong diha pa ko ga-trabaho I’ve always pray na unta ang akong income tax mapadulong unta ngadto sa dapat niyang padulngan which is the improvement of the basic infra & services sa siudad…
kung sa pinulungang tagalog, higpitin ang iyong pagdarasal.naway magkatotoo.halos igive up man gani ang cebu city medical center.kay dili na kuno income generating.kanus a man ka kadungog ug govt agency kinghanglan muincome?in the service of the people man na.hinuon padung ang kwarta sa ilang ‘privilege card.’ kana kung registered voter ka sa city.paet.pero inspired ko nimo, full of hope pa ka.patakud ko
@turagsoy
i went to korea for a visit last dec x2wk (satchmo was w/me and hubby) pagka-modern man didto esp. seoul………. wala wala ang pinas sa seoul kon modernization lang ang pag-usapan, if you think about it pinas has more natural resources than korea, pero wala ta sa kalingkingan sa korea when talking about improvements they are as comparable as japan! progressive and patriotic kaayo sila, you can hardly see import cars from there most of them are driving there own manufactured cars! the only american import cars i saw was on US base and some very wealthy koreans have benz and beamer, even there cell phones ila, wala sila “load” like what we have in pinas my US phone did not work there but it works in pinas…… nindot kaayo korea your in asia yet it feels like your in US………i was even thinking of going back there on summer and oh the shooopping there is awesome, LOL
Cebu Gov’t. did a very good job with the SRP though, it’s a good start. About Colon Street, the bldgs. will be much cleaner & prettier to look at if all bldg. owners will have their buildings painted. It takes fresh paints for Colon Street to become beautiful again!! Concerning the squatters, the gov’t. should have apartment buildings built just for them. Also, sidewalk vendors should have a colorful booths in designated areas just for them.
Punta Engaño is not an island by itself but an extension of Mactan which jutted out like an appendix into the north side. I’m not sure if it will be right to call it a small peninsula.
I was privileged to see it in its pristine condition long before commercialization set in to as far as Santa Rosa.
The no.1 problem in Cebu right now is population… no.2 is, transportation…no.3 is, a place to live… in short, too many people…too many jeepneys… too many squatters… this are the most important things that needs to be address right now.Acting mayor Rama and the lovely gov.Gwen needs to sit down on the same table with a glass of cold drink and come up some solution in regards to this problem. Can i suggest that a high rise resedential building for low income families would be a good start.Get well soon to our mayor Tommy…you’ll be right mate.
nice photo, the fish pen have big houses, I think the owner lives there too. I want to see the other islands such as Olango, Caubian, etc. Thanks

Hi. This blog side are very nice, I like it so I think I can maybe send some photo inn here, from Argao.
Resort, condo, and hotel developments are sprouting all over Punta Engano and Mactan Island in general.
I can’t wait for the day when the coastline of Mactan will be lined up with world-class resorts (of course, pabinlan pud ug protected areas ug family beaches).
