World Osteoporosis Day
Last Sunday, my mom literally dragged me and my dad to SM City Cebu to attend the “Anlene Movement”. The activity, which took place during the celebration of World Osteoporosis Day, showcased the Anlene dance steps – as seen on TV – and different activities which taught people the importance of drinking milk and proper exercise.
In case you didn’t know, Anlene is a milk brand which is heavily advertised using three female endorsers – Dina Bonevie, Pinky Marquez, and Pilita Corales.
Registration opened at 6 AM and thousands of people, mostly middle-aged women, came in large groups to be part of the nationwide event (programs were also held in Manila and Davao). Before the parade even started, however, the organizing team ran out of free shirts ( which got some people complaining right away. LOL).

This group’s full of energy.

Ready to dance?

Students from the University of Cebu

Participants entering a very small covered court. You want thousands of people to dance in that very small space? Seriously?

Host – Pilita Corales. She was fun for a while.

Some observations:
1. Very young dancers were used as dance ‘guides’. You can’t expect a crowd of people 40 and up to dance like a high-schooler, right?
2. Although I saw people drinking free milk, I didn’t actually see a counter giving away free glassfuls. Free milk should have been given at the entrance to ensure that people get to taste their product. That too would have kept their energy up so that they could stomp their feet and shakes their booties.
3. They repeatedly urged the people to dance. How can you dance when there are other people standing directly in front, beside, and behind you?
Before the show was even halfway, there were very few people left. Most of them were probably disappointed that the event didn’t turn out the way they expected. Well, who could blame them? You can’t expect to see someone dancing very early in the morning with an empty stomach. A glass of milk would have been okay. But strangely, that too was as elusive as the abominable snowman. Hehehe.

Free samples is a must in promoting a product. I like Pilita though.

I was there too, but, fortunately for me, I got my free glass of chocolate-flavored milk. No, make it three, ha ha…

Fonterra has better chances of making inmates dance for them than the people they herded for this event.
