Super Bisdak: Manilyn Reynes

 

Since I don’t have anything new to post, let me give you another Super Bisdak entry.

I was watching a local TV show when I saw mom’s all-time idol, Manilyn Reynes. My mom said that she maintains a Banawa, Cebu City address and that she was born here.

I immediately googled her and true enough, she is one of us! A true-blue Cebuano. For those of you who don’t know her, read on.

 

Manilyn Reynes is one of the most celebrated stars of her time. In fact, she has the title “Star of the New Decade” which raised her to the pedestal together with the high-caliber names in the industry.

 

But how did Manilyn “Mane” Reynes-Jimenez break into the mainstream?

It is said that when she was young her parents noticed her interests and skills in music. So, they encouraged her to join singing contests in Cebu. During one of her performances, Bobit Avila saw her and convinced her and her parents to go to Manila.

Manilyn reached Manila when she was 11 and she was presented to Mother Lily. She was immediately offered a contract. She starred in a hit movie Dear Mama opposite the late Charito Solis and she released an album entitled Apple Thoughts.  She became very popular and her achievements as a young star remain unbeaten until today. All of her albums have certified gold and platinum awards. She was also the youngest recording artist to have a major concert at the Bigdome and the Ultra. 

Manilyn is happily married to former actor Aljon Jimenez.

Incidentally, yesterday, October 20, Manilyn celebrated her 25th year in show business.

Wow! Congrats, Mane!

Aside from co-hosting a show in QTV11 entitled Moms, Mane also appeared in a lot of movies and TV shows. She also has an extensive list of achievements for her age.
