Before going home, we dropped by Cantipla’s ‘bagsakan” of very fresh produce from nearby baranggays. I swear, you can find ‘almost’ everything you want there. Very fresh at half the price! Wow!

After seeing that last photo, I can’t wait to taste fresh nangka when I visit Cebu next month. I bought some jackfruit this morning in Chinatown. A small slice cost me $15. I’m sure it’s much cheaper (and more delicious) in Cantipla. So how do you exactly get to this “bagsakan” market? Are there jeepneys that go there. Directions would be much appreciated. I definitely want to visit the place.
Hi Leylander – Regarding your comment that you don’t know the names of some of the veggies: the “round thing” on pic no. 5 is, well, we call it “kalbasang puti”; the “white carrot-like veggie” is, I think, a radish; and the “long green thing” is sikwa (I’m not sure of the spelling). The purple fruit (pic #8) is mangosteen – I am not aware it grows it Cebu (same with durian). The purple leafy vegetable in the photo with alugbate is not kangkong. I think those are camote leaves. Boy, I’m in my thirties but I feel like an old teacher giving my pupils a lesson.

It was realy cool to see how people shopped for their groceries. It is very exotic and different from how we do things over here. We just by pre rapped food.
