Malu Fernandez Says Sorry (and Resigns)

23 08 2007

Update!!!

The famous and infamous Malu Fernandez of the Economy Class fame recently issued a statement. In her letter, she said that she’s “deeply apologetic for my insensitivity and the offensive manner in which this article was written”. She indicated that she’s read what people had to say about her through the “blogs from Filipinos all over the world“.

She added that she’s been the target of death threats, hate blogs, and deeply personal insults (I wonder why) and she wants her family out of the mess she made.

Before her note ended, she said that she’s out of Manila Standard and People Asia. Not to mention the fact that she’s asking everyone to stop discriminating overweight individuals.

Hmmm. I wonder if it was really Malu who made this.

If it really was her, I can say that it’s too late and thanks for the apology. But you will forever be remembered as the lady who was almost butchered by the people you’ve wronged.

Told you you won’t get out of this unscathed.

Anyways, take care!

READ Malu’s ARTICLE HERE

P.S. Don’t go to Dubai. Ever!

P.S.S. Don’t fly Economy ever again!

Complete letter of apology here. (Thanks NiChee)

Malu’s apology letter is not corroborated because anybody can write in a “balot ng gawgaw” and pass it off as hers. We have to hear it from her publisher. Any of her “witty” friends can post a blog and offer an apology alledgely coming from this pig in order to protect this pig and their names from being dragged into this quagmire. As the most hated bitch in Philippine history, we demand to see this pig oinking her words of apology on TV. We have to hear it straight from the horse’s mouth. No, I mean pig’s mouth.

“She added that she’s been the target of death threats”

that is the most humorous thing Ive ever read
finally she has the “acerbic wits” talent in her

“Iam Sorry”
I’ve already watched that on national (rather worldwide) TV
have some originality as someone wrote it might be another blogger saving and cleaning her ass

and do remember the name folks boycott everything or anything that has to do with her let her crawl and feel the “socioeconomic background”

I have heard about this controversial issue regarding the article of Ms. Fernandez abroad. I am not here to defend her side of the story. But as a Filipino who regularly comes home every year, I have to share with you as well with my flight experience with other OFWs who have not been acting appropriately abroad. I exactly know where Ms. Malu is coming from. I am not saying that she delivered an excellent article but what I am trying to say here is that she has a basis for saying what she said. During my several trips back home in the Philippines, I had experience some OFWs who put their feet up on the arm chair of the plane . Several times, I ‘ve called the attention of the guy sitting but to no avail so I had to call the flight attendant to ask him politely to put his feet down. One time, when the plane was about the land, one OFW, stood up and went from one Filipino to another distributing flyers of real estate properties in Laguna, acting like he was in a Pantranco bus. He was taking the opportunity to catch an OFW who would be ready to invest their hard earned money buying a property from another OFW. I know that he was just trying to make additional income for his family. But not on the plane!! There were some foreigners also whom he offered and was wondering what was that all about.

Ms. Malu ’s choice of words that sounded condescending and belittling our Filipino workers abroad was way out of line. That’s why I hope she learns from this lesson the hard way. She has to reflect and ponder more about her snobbish and snooty attitude and change for the better. However, we as Filipinos living and working abroad should also be cognizant of how we are putting our Filipino image into a bad light. We all should observe proper decorum when representing our country abroad.

Perhaps, that was only her point.

The apology does not sound like her; must have been written for her by people behind her publications. I also want to see her, and her publishers, apologize on tv.

Malu Fernandez is so ridiculous, saying all those things againts OFW’s and to think that she is a Filipino too, or maybe not coz Filipinos have heart and i dont think she has, she is nothing but a woman full of pretentions,

I’ve recently met up with my friend and incidentally, she is someone who knows this Malu Fernandez pesonally. We talked about this whole issue over a cup of coffee one late afternoon.

According to my “source”, Malu Fernandez is not one bit apologetic about what she wrote. She just got scared of all the death threats she’s been getting and so she decided to just apologize to put an end to it all. My friend, who is also Malu Fernandez’s friend said, that she is for a fact, really an elitist who thinks so highly of herself and looks down on people who she feels doesn’t belong in her uper class world.

WHATEVER.

Imagine, that’s already her friend talking. That Malu woman can really be a bitch at times, I guess.

The funny thing about our conversation about her is when my friend quoted Malu into saying that, “it’s okay for people to ridicule me about my weight”.

“Basta wag lang akong tawaging MATANDA”!

HAHA!

This woman is 45 years old already and one juicy info on her, she is currently dating an actor from ABS CBN. One who is known for his crazy antics due to drug addiction and take note, the actor is 20 years her junior!

PERSONALAN na lang tutal ang pangit ng ugali niya.

Your apologies are useless, you have shown your true color and it is the ugliest shade of SHIT that you are so full of, that is why your article stink, because that is who you are… ONE VERY STINKY SHITHEAD. And that horrible attitude cannot be covered with icing/apologies. Get over your hypocrisy, Malu Fernandez!
And since you already resigned… your next job which you will thoroughly serve the country is to be a “PISON”, just roll over those rough and rugged roads and you can guarantee everybody that soon as you are done, the road will be smooth. Yes, the plane seats are just fine, it is the fact that you are OVERWEIGHT and you have bad attitude. JUST THE FACTS, MALU… it has nothing to do with descrimination.

Its really exciting to know the recent statistics for how many are domestic helpers and how many are professionals in every country,,but i guess Dubai has this huge number of professionals than those who works at home, how many ofws are working in an office in DUbai?,,rarely are domestic helpers, more professionals are here already.
and regardsless of where they work, at home or at office, its unjust to say things like that Ms. Malu,
Dont ever dare to come to dubai,we will kick you out..DUbai is a very nice place, can find here amazing buildings, now do you want to come with me at Burj al Arab?its a 7-star hotel only in Dubai..and mind you, that is our project…….

UAE is a tax free country kaya Malou you better shut up your dirty mouth next time kung ayaw mong dumiretso sa butcher shop!

SUPPORT THIS CAUSE..

This is not mandatory.. At least we have to lessen our remittances..

Every 1USD that the OFW’s will cut from the remittance will have a deductive effect of 8,000,000.00 USD for the Philippine government, so, if we all tighten our belts and say lessen our remittance for say 200.00 USD for three (3) months, the government will have a temporary deficit of ;
200.00 x 3 months = 600.00 USD x 8,000,000.00 = 4,800,000,000.00 (this is 4.8 billion USD) If we will convert this figure at the prevailing rate of 45 Php per 1 USD this is equivalent to 216,000,000,000.00 PhP. (two hundred sixteen billion pesos na to) I’m sure this figure will be really worth dealing in a civilized manner. (Iilaw na ang mga mata ng mga nasa negotiating panel ).

This is our (OFW) united effort in terms of monetary value. Which the government “seems” to neglect for the very reason that we are not united… and they can step on our nose.. but for as long as we can endure the pain… we should not resort to this option.

OFWs hit govt for remittance rule
Overseas Filipino workers are up in arms over the government’s proposal for them to send their remittances solely through the Philippine Postal Savings Bank.

“Yes it (government) is willing to give us a special rate, provided we course our remittances through their favorite Postal Saving Bank,” said Francis Oca in an e-mail from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Oca, a certified public accountant who has beenin Riyadh for the last 23 years, said he feels insulted by the proposal.

Oca questioned a proposal by Malacañang that was backed by President Arroyo’s economic managers to allocate $1 billion in funding to exporters for a preferential peso-dollar exchange rate.

The proposal came amid the continued improvement of the peso against the US dollar. From 56 in September 2005, the peso now averages at 45:$1.

“I think we have had enough; I think it is high time that we show some muscle.” He suggested to fellow OFWs to “cut remittances by half during the next six months.”

Vic Barrazona, another Saudi OFW, meanwhile, said that Oca’s proposal may not be acceptable to other migrant Filipino workers.

“If a low-income OFW is sending a monthly remittance of US$200, cutting it to half may have an adverse affect to his beneficiaries,” Barrazona said.

He suggested a 5-10 percent reduction in remittances for all OFWs. “It will have a better chance of positive response from our ranks.”

The issue started this year as the peso continued to improve against the dollar.

Migrant workers said their remittances are no longer worth the same because of the peso performance.

Exporters, meanwhile, are also feeling the pinch because the appreciation of the Philippine currency would mean a bigger loss for them every time the peso goes up against the dollar.

On Wednesday, the peso closed weaker at 45.83 against the greenback, lower than Tuesday’s 45.34.

On behalf of our beloved OFWs, I have coined a new word to immortalize the infamy that the stupid Malu Fernandez created. The word sits strategically between the words malignant and manhole (both descriptive of Malu herself) in the Webster’s Dictionary. May the word be used in street conversations and political debates and be quoted in articles as a lesson for would be Marie Antoinettes in the future.

*malufernandific (adj. origin Phil.) (1)a feeling of self-entitlement; (2) refers to a person with delusions of grandeur to the point of feeling scorn towards the disadvantaged sector of the society;(3) an event or phenomenon that reminds one of the hanging of Marie Anotinette;(4) a braggart;(5) noveau riche;(6) crass pig; Lexicographic History: Word originated from the biggest faux pax in the history of class struggle in the Philippines created by Malu Fernandez who was a columnist for Manila Standard until August 2007.

From: Damayan Migrant Workers New York/New Jersey chapter…

For Malu Fernandez: We are proud to be who we are (OFW’s), how we earned a living with sweat, blood and tears. We clean the toilet of rich people, we babysit, we work so hard to support our family in the Philippines. I feel sorry for you if millions of Filipino you had been offended wants to butcher you for your irresponsible writing. But i hope this will serve a lesson to you, not to look down people you think underneath your pedestal. Intellectual people don’t act and write like you do. And if you think your article is hillarious, you are in a big stupid mistake. OFW’s here in NY/NJ don’t even use your perfume because they usually bought theirs in well known department stores like Bloomingdale’s and Zak’s 5th. And aside from that people should not be classified by the perfume they are using. Because people like us can buy more than you think we can. By the way, my wealthy employer who is a lawyer and producer of the singer Il Divo and residing in a multi million dollar Midtown apartment in Manhattan use “Axe”, as well as his two sons. God bless you Miss Fernandez! I hope your stupid mistake will give you a lesson.

These are way too much hatred! I think it’s enough. I’m sure that Ma. Fernandez has got your points:-)

But have you all ever think that Malou has a point? That the truth hurts? Face it, Kababayan!

That’s exactly how the things always are when you meet pinoys on planes, or everywhere abroad. Why can’t the fellow Kababayans leave us alone who wants some peaceful journey?

I have no bad things to say about OFW’s. But sometimes they behave like they own the plane on their way home! Hehehe.. You’ll hate me for this..I know. But still.. I want peace when I travel. And I don’t speak Tagalog very well (almost all of them are tagalogs). I struggle already to maintain my own language.. There, I said it!

All these blogs about you are just so fitting for one so hideous (i saw your picture by the way and for lack of a better word hideous would be fine for now). I am an architect who has worked abroad for quite a while now. I always thought that they are the true heroes of our country. I admire their courage and commitment and have respected each one of them for it regardless of their social standing. I deeply feel for our kababayans who had to put up with a lot of crap working outside. Most of which i spoke with are mistreated(but they had to stay because their families need them!). The very people you have spoken against without having to know or understand what they go through everyday are the very ones that make a difference in the lives of their families. They put up with so much so they can feed their kids and send them to school. You don’t know how it feels like when you cant be with your family when they need you badly..when your kid is sick, or graduating, or not be in their birthdays, not spend christmas with them etc.!

People like them make the ultimate sacrifice!

sila ang mga bayani!

We dont need people like you!

more than the remittance they give..they give their lives! you should try to be in their shoes one day fatso!!!!

I bet not. You don’t care if OFW’s suffer degrading insults from your malicious big fat mouth knowing you’re also a Filipino.

To Roman.
You are forgiven. You can call me the uneducated type, but I’m also the type of person who absorbs no hatred. Hatred and unforgiveness are mediocrity for me. We must not be so wicked to each other. We must forgive and live our lives in harmony. Who knows? Perhaps our lives on this earth will end tomorrow or next week? What then? Do we have hearts pure enough to face our creator? I don’t think He will ask us about our degrees and achievements. I really don’t think so.. We must forgive and live in peace and prepare ourselves to face our judge in heaven. God uses no pillory. . That’s all I can say.
